Thank you for your generous support for our 2025 Christmas Appeal

While Christmas 2025 has passed, the Lions Club has been hard at work utilising the funds raised during the 2025 appeal. Your generous support directly benefits:

Vulnerable Populations: Support for the young, elderly and homeless within Leeds.

Specialised Care: Funding for Martin House Children’s Hospice, other regional hospices, and Candlelighters.

Maximising Donations: As a registered charity with HMRC, the club reclaims an extra 25p for every £1 donated if you have indicated that you are a UK taxpayer.

Direct Funding: Every penny collected goes directly to support good causes, as members fund all of the club’s administrative and running costs themselves.

How to Get Involved

The Lion’s Club is a social community of volunteers that has been active globally since 1917. If you have a few spare hours a month, there are several ways to help:
• Volunteer: Offer your time to local projects and activities.
• Spread the Word: If you cannot volunteer personally, you are encouraged to pass this invitation to friends or family members who might be interested.
• Learn More: Discover more about local volunteering and how to give back to the community.

Headingley Defibrillator Improvements – A Big Thank You to Specsavers and JJHE Electrical Solutions

The Lions have upgraded the Headlinley Defibrillator we installed some years ago. It is located at the new Specsavers on Otley Road / North Lane Traffic Lights, formerly the Nat West Bank.  The Defibrillator has been used on a number of occasions and continues to be ready to help save lives. Access is provided via 999 calls to the West Yorkshire Ambulance Service 24/7.

Specsavers who have worked with the Lions Club for many years have very generously donated the new cabinet and essential electrical power.

JJhelectricalsolutions very kindly installed the new cabinet and electrical connections. See Joanne who donated her professional services and contact details are below.

Both organisations have shown great commitment to supporting the local community and we hope that the community feels able to support these businesses in return.  Lions provide ongoing maintenance,  new batteries and consumables  as required from funds collected by the Charity.

St George’s Crypt – Leeds Based Award Winning Homeless Charity

In September 2023 we provided some repeat support to this important City of Leeds charity working with the homeless, the vulnerable and those suffering from addiction. They aim to:

  • To meet the basic needs of everyone in a safe, non-judgmental and caring environment.
  • To support people who are living on the stree­ts into finding accommodation.
  • To help people gain skills and confidence so that they can take an active role in their futures.
  • To be good stewards of all that we receive in an open and transparent manner.
  • To enable people to make positive choices in their lifestyle by accessing employment and freedom from addiction.
  • To engage with local communities by identifying opportunities to share the Crypt’s resources.
  • To find the most appropriate solutions by creating effective partnerships across the city.

 

Lions Help Martin House Hospice

Local Lions Clubs, including Leeds & Skyrack Lions Club, in have provided an amazing £44,000 for Martin House Hospice to fund a new Sanctuary Garden Project.  This will help create a semi-private landscaped garden, located outside The Sanctuary, where our bereavement counselling takes place. This tranquil and peaceful space will allow our families to take further time together following their sessions.  We can’t wait to start work and create a very special place for remembrance and reflection.

Donation to Leeds Homestart to help and support young families in need

 

July 2022 Lions donation to Home-Start Leeds, they got a valid cheque too !

Home-Start Leeds is a voluntary organisation offering both emotional and practical support to families with at least one child under seven in the Leeds area.

We all know that being a parent isn’t always easy and that life can bring stress and challenges that get in the way of family life.

Support is provided to  parents in their home and develop a supportive relationship to help them to build brighter futures for their children whatever the community or backgrounds.

Leeds and Skyrack Lions have supported Home-Start leeds for many years so that they can provide  appropriate families with weekly support and practical goods such as Easter and Christmas hampers, toys at Christmas, baby equipment and a variety of emergency supplies.

 

Home-Start Supporting Parents & Families in and around Leeds

Home-Start Leeds is a voluntary organisation offering both emotional and practical support to families with at least one child under seven in the Leeds area.

We know that being a parent isn’t always easy and that life can bring stress and challenges that get in the way of family life.

Our volunteers from all communities and backgrounds visit parents in their home and develop a supportive relationship to help them to build brighter futures for their children and themselves.  Leeds Skyrack Lions provided a  donation which will help us provide essential household items for Leeds families struggling with the ‘Cost of Living Crisis’  – in particular as winter approaches we will have requests for curtains, and items to keep the home warm.

Home-Start is a local community network of trained volunteers and expert support helping families with young children through their challenging times. We are there for parents when they need us the most because childhood can’t wait.

The Home-Start approach is as individual as the people we’re helping. No judgement, it is just compassionate, confidential help and expert support.
